Dear sir

I write regularly for the website Gotop Co. (_http://www.gotop.com.tw_), which introduces the latest computer software to Taiwan consumers. In the coming two months, I am going to publish a new book about 'USB Storage Devices'. Because of the previous reasons, I think people will be highly interested in your product. Therefore, I would like to ask for your permission whether I could put "Ethereal" of your product(download from internet), in the CD that goes with the book as a set. I regard it as a very good opportunity to familiarize Taiwan computer market with your quality product and to build word of mouth.

I'm not sure you need to ask us for permission, as long as you make the source code to Ethereal available, and otherwise do as the GNU General Public License, Version 2:

	http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html

requires you to do, as Ethereal is licensed under the GPL, Version 2.

However, nobody appears to be developing Ethereal any more; the core Ethereal development team are now working on Wireshark, as the note added to your message above indicates.

You should put Wireshark onto the CD, rather than putting Ethereal onto the CD, if you can.

(I'm not sure why Ethereal or Wireshark would be relevant to a book on USB storage devices; it doesn't support capturing USB traffic, although you can put a copy of it on a USB storage device as a "portable application", at least for some platforms.)
