Yes and no. This actually gives an interesting hint.

My WLAN interface is "en1"
My wired gigabit interface is "en0".

When I run tcpdump without any argument, it tries to capture on en0  
but my wlan is lost.
When I try to capture using "tcpdump -i en1" however, I see all my  
packets and my wlan connection is NOT lost.

In other words, it works as long as the  unused interface "en0" is  
not tampered with. Ethereal should be able to do that too. Usually  
loosing the wlan connection happens already when you go into  
preferences and save them etc.
