[Ethereal-users] decoding packets without lower layer headers

hi,

is there a way to decode some higher layer packets from say a hexdump
or binary dump, when the lower layer headers/trailers are missing, but
we explicitly select the protocol to be decoded ?

of course a brute force approach is to create dummy lower layer
headers and then use regular decoding, but i am trying to avoid that.
