[Ethereal-users] Parsing some propriety information in a protocol packet

Hi,
    I have been using Ethereal for analysis of few protocols but I
have never seen its code base. I have some special requirement. I need
to include some propriety information with a protocol packet, which
could be parsed and shown in columns (GUI's main view).
For example I need to append some prospriety information before Ethernet packet.
What is the best way of doing such a change?
