One problem here is that he'd have to have some DLT_ value for his 
capture; he hasn't said what the link layer is, so we can't say what the 
DLT_ value would be.  Is this a VoIP trace (so that it might be 
Ethernet, for example, at the link layer), or is it something ISDN-like 
(in which case there's no DLT_ value that's usable), or something else?
