Hi, Go to "View->Name Resolution->Enable for Network Layer", and then reload the capture. However, this will only change what you see if Ethereal is able to find a name for the IP address. Since yours are private, it is very likely that you see no change. So, to answer your question: what you see between the parentheses is the IP address; what you see before that is - a name if name resolution is active and Ethereal can find out which name corresponds to the address - the IP address otherwise Regards, Francisco > -----Original Message----- > From: ethereal-users-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx > [mailto:ethereal-users-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx] > Sent: jueves, 30 de junio de 2005 6:32 > To: ronnie sahlberg > Cc: Ethereal user support > Subject: [Ethereal-users] Re: ip addresses in parenthesis in > InternetProtocol frames > > > Thanks a lot fot the (rapid) answer. > I am quite a newbie to ethereal :May I ask: How do you > enable name resolution for ip addresses ? > > John > > On 6/30/05, ronnie sahlberg <ronniesahlberg@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > enable name resolution for ip addresses and you will see > how they differ. > > > > > > > > On 6/30/05, John Que <qwejohn@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: > > > Hello, > > > > > > Hello, > > > > > > When I try to read the contentns of pacekets sent by IP > with Ethereal > > > Sniffer I always see that in the lower windows , when displaying > > > the IP addresses of src and reciever, the same addresses appear > > > also in parenthesis. > > > > > > For examplle: > > > > > > Frame 15... > > > Ethernet II > > > Internet Protocol,Src Addr: 192.168.0.56 (192.168.0.56), Dst Adr > > > 192.168.0.13 (192.168.0.13). > > > > > > What is he meaning of this ip addresses in parenthesis? > are the always > > > the same as the non-parenthesis IP addreses? > > > > > > Regards, > > > John > > > > > > _______________________________________________ > > > Ethereal-users mailing list > > > Ethereal-users@xxxxxxxxxxxx > > > http://www.ethereal.com/mailman/listinfo/ethereal-users > > > > > > > _______________________________________________ > Ethereal-users mailing list > Ethereal-users@xxxxxxxxxxxx > http://www.ethereal.com/mailman/listinfo/ethereal-users >
