Well I tried downloading a second time and the file I ended up with was 
fine .. installed, works, everything's good, no need for anyone's help, 
thanks to everyone who took the time to read my message.

Just out of interest, the binary MD5 checksum of the valid binary is:

D:\Downloads>md5sum ethereal-setup-0.10.6.exe
007fa3bb2f05f54277f5e9d8864f6cdb *ethereal-setup-0.10.6.exe
