Still.   Ethereal-compatilibility is a problem for those other tools. Not
ethereals problem.

Those users pay for support contracts?   Maybe they should ask the vendor
for native support
for pcap capture files?
It would reduce the amount of useless requests for better support in
ethereal for the timestamps in some
weird undocumented fileformat that just acts as a diversion diverting
precious developement resources
away from real and productive work instead of second guessing some unknown
fileformat.
