The source code is written in c, which should be sufficiently similar to
c++ that it should be readable for someone who can read c++.

Umm, sorry to be asking - but I don't understand what kind of answer
*are* you expecting? Which information would be missing in the answer

I found out that "pro" means "instead of" (as in proconsul). Now I know
what proactive means.
