All, I see that while the standard ISO implementation of HDLC is not currently supported by Ethereal, the Cisco variation is. Given that I have a very limited software development background (some introductory C++ stuff), how realistic is it for me to consider taking on development of support of ISO HDLC? Is anyone else already pursuing this? It is my desire to by one of a few PCMCIA cards on the market that have Windows drivers and support synchronous, bit-oriented protocols. I want to monitor live HDLC (Mod 128) traffic without investing $20k in a hardware-based protocol analyzer. I want to decode the entire header and verify the checksum on each frame. Don't really care about the payload much. Thank you for entertaining these questions.
