It did show up in 2.4.6, however I was told there were many changes to improve the driver leading up to the 2.4.16 version of the kernel. Just what I've learned from Kismet. Kismet finds the networks, ethereal sniffs 'em. ;-) -Rick Farina ----- Original Message ----- From: "Guy Harris" <guy@xxxxxxxxxx> To: "Rick Farina" <farinard@xxxxxxxxxx> Cc: "Ulf Bertilsson" <ulf.bertilsson@xxxxxxxxxxxx>; "Aron Silverton" <ajs@xxxxxxxxxxxx>; <ethereal-users@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, May 02, 2002 15:29 Subject: Re: [Ethereal-users] Cisco Aironet 340/350 on Windows On Thu, May 02, 2002 at 03:22:16PM -0400, Rick Farina wrote: > Do you mean a 2.4.16 kernel? No, I really do mean a 2.4.6 kernel. 2.4.16 is certainly a "later kernel" than 2.4.6, so it should work, but the stuff in the Aironet driver to support ARPHRD_IEEE80211 first showed up in 2.4.6, so I say "2.4.6 or later". The FAQ doesn't say what's *recommended*, it just lists what you *need*. I've seen nothing to show that you *need* a 2.4.16 kernel. > Because that is what is typically suggested for that kind of work. Is that specifically due to issues in earlier versions of the Aironet driver, or is it due to issues that affect packet capture in general? If it's due to packet capture issues in general, that would be a *separate* recommendation; it shouldn't be buried in an item about 802.11 capture.
