Ethereal-users: September 2001

Hi
I would like to ask if someone of the vast "ethereal"-community of specialists could help me solving a serious problem that I have with an .enc-file that I cannot open any more.
This means if someone of you could provide me with the exact specifications for the format of an .enc-file:  what every byte in the header means, what the event commands look like, how the tracks are arranged, etc. The same kind of information that is - for example - specified in the MIDI file format standard. If the format of an .enc file was known, the portion of the file
that exists could be analyzed, and a new header constructed that matches the data in the file.  So if anyone has written a program to salvage a corrupt .enc-file it would be very nice if this person could get in contact with me.
Just for information: I contacted - some time ago - Passport's technical support department at gvox.com (!?) and apart from getting strange answers (such as: to buy a Disk Doctor program...!!)  I also had the impression that  the company did not want to release this information...! (Is this kind of information a trade secret or some such nonsense???) Obviously  technical support people are not prepared to answer questions that are THIS technical....!!
I'm looking very much forward to getting a response!
ciao
