I think that should be the default behavior for *all* UNIXish programs. Following this path there should be easy sailing for all programs using $HOME (under NT/W9x %HOME% of course). I'm using Cygwin/Jade/MikTeX ... with explicit set %HOME%-variable without any problems. cu Holger PS: Any way for ethereal to behave more Windows GUI-conforming ( preferences dialog, file open/save)? Not a problem for _me_ but for some "Windows only" people ;-)
