I checked a while ago to see the feasability it turned not to be an
easy change, as it might induce some ambiguity between field names and
resolvable addresses in the lhs that would have to be resolved.

think in

ip.addr == hostname.domain.com

in that case the lhs could be interpreted as either an unexistent
filter field or as an address to be resolved.
