Ethereal 0.7.6 is now available for immediate download. Besides the usual bug fixes, some new features were added. New protocol decoders include: BPDU (Spanning Tree Protocol), SNA (but with data still shown in ASCII, unfortunately), RIPng, PIM, Yahoo Messenger and Pager Protocol, NTP, BGP, AFS and RX, and VLAN (802.1q). Almost all of the protocols supported by Ethereal now have some if not all fields filterable with Ethereal's display filter facility. Remember to read the man page for the list of such fields. Laurent Deniel put in a lot of work to add filterable fields to the protocols. Some protocols had fixes or updates applied. Thes include LLC, SMB, NBNS, POP, DNS, IPv6, and OSPF. There's probably others that I forgot to mention. The display filter engine's syntax for filtering on byte strings has some new extensions to it, documented in the man page. The TCP Follow window allows you to switch between ASCII and EBCDIC. Ethereal can now read HP-UX's nettl trace-file format. As always, the main Ethereal web page is http://ethereal.zing.org/ You can download the source from http://ethereal.zing.org/distribution/ethereal-0.7.6.tar.gz Enjoy! --gilbert
