I am pleased to announce the availability of Ethereal 0.7.0. This version has some exciting new features that you'll enjoy. Ethereal can now analyze RADIUS, RTSP (Real-Time Streaming Protocol), SDP (Session Description Protocol), LAPB, X.25, and Classical IP over ATM (Linux) packets. SMB support has been enhanced. Ethereal can now be compiled on Win32 platforms with MSVC. The Win32 version cannot capture packets, but we're working on it. A new printing option allows you to print all packets at once. Wiretap is no longer optional. Ethereal uses wiretap to read a wide variety of capture file formats. Newly added to wiretap's inventory of file formats is RADCOM's WAN/LAN Analyzer. Ethereal now has a built-in display filter engine. We used to use the pcap library for display filters, but a built-in engine gives us more power by being able to filter on many more fields that what pcap provides. Additionally, these display filters can be applied to all the file formats that wiretap supports. The new display filter language is incompatible with pcap's filter language, which we still use for capturing. Thus, for the time being, Ethereal's capture filter language is different from its display filter language. This is a minor inconvenience compared to the capabilities of the new display filter language. The new display filter language is documented in the Ethereal manpage. Ethereal now relies on GTK+-1.2. Previous versions no longer work with Ethereal.
